ADDING A LITTLE LIFE.

For this project, we teamed up with our friends at AB&C to capture the brand-new maternity ward at Nemours Children's Health. The space was beautiful. Thoughtfully designed, warm and ready to welcome families. There was just one problem. It was really new. So new, in fact, that some of the little details that make a space feel lived in simply weren't there yet.

That's where AI came in.

WHY A.I.?

We had already done the important part. We shot the real space. Real architecture. Real light. Real camera movement. Everything we wanted the audience to experience was captured practically.

What was missing were the life layers. Sheets on a bed. Flowers on a table. A towel in the bathroom. Clothing and personal items. Small signs that someone had actually arrived, unpacked and started making the room their own.

Traditionally, that means having every detail planned, sourced and placed before the camera rolls—or adding those elements later through a more involved VFX process.AI gave us another option.

THE PROCESS

We approached the project exactly as we normally would, shooting and editing the film first. Once we had our cut, our post team identified the moments that could use a little more life.

Then, rather than rebuilding entire shots, we used AI selectively to introduce individual details into the existing photography. A flower here. A towel there. Bedding. Clothing. Small objects that helped transform a pristine new facility into a space that felt ready for a family.

The key was restraint. We weren't trying to reinvent the environment or generate something that wasn't there. We were using AI to support what we had already captured.

WHAT WE LEARNED

This is where we currently see some of the strongest potential for AI in our production toolkit. Small, controlled changes to real photography. Adding a prop. Removing a distraction. Changing a detail that wasn't available on the shoot day. These aren't necessarily the flashy applications of AI. But they might be some of the most useful.

Sometimes the best use of AI is the one you don't notice. For Nemours, we didn't need AI to create the film. We needed it to help finish the world around it.

The photography was real. The space was real. The story was real. AI simply gave our artists another way to add the final layers of humanity that weren't available when we rolled camera And right now, that's where we're increasingly excited about this technology. Not replacing the shoot. Not replacing our artists. Just giving them another tool to solve the things that happen between what we planned, what we captured and what the finished film needs.
